![]() Haven't specifically tried Redpointe though. I've tried Red Maples and they just don't work with slightly alkaline. I love Autumn Fantasy due to its impeccable branching structure. Generally Autumn Fantasy will be a bit more deep like a ruby color. Non natives are just as important in some cases. Planting natives is great but don't just plant natives. All maples are susceptible to galls - not sure if some are more or less but I see it on Silver Maples all the time. I don't know why the latter would be possible unless its a hybrid. Redpointe is generally more desirable red maple as its fall color is consistent, its footprint is a bit more compact and reportedly better adapted to neutral to slightly alkaline soils. Unlike other different types of red maple trees, Chinese maple turns bright red in fall. Some even consider red maple a "weedy" tree. These good-looking maple trees easily capture people’s attention during the autumn season. Sugar is considered a more stately tree and outlives Red maple by a long shot. Generally not an aggressive root system compared to other american maplesįasts grower - nurseries love to sell them I appreciate any help/guidance/advice you could provide. At the same time, October Glory typically grows an average of 16 inches per year. Its annual growth rate can exceed 24 inches. Autumn Blaze is growing faster than the competition. I have a river birch planted in my backyard. Uses: Feature Tree, Shade Tree, Ornamental Tree. For red maple, I am considering either 'October Glory' or one of those Freeman maples. For sugar maple, I am considering 'Green Mountain'. I want this maple to be more on the red side than the yellow side. I am looking for color variation on this maple, yellow, orange to orange red. I am planting a red oak and a maple next to each other for nice fall colors. I've been doing some reading about sugar maple and red maple (and its cultivars) and I just couldn't make my decision.
